A special artsy loving robot thanks to Stephanie Fizer (http://blog.stephaniefizercoleman.com/)
I would say about 79% of people respond to the question of what they are doing on Valentines day with some variation of “Nothing; I hate Valentine’s day”. It is somewhat legitimate. Special attention is given to the fact you are either single or not quite as romantic as the guys in the Jared’s Diamonds commercials. But what if we all decided to make Valentines Day not suck?
It is a last minute request, but we are going to try and follow Sasha Dichter’s lead and make Valentine’s day more about giving love than consuming love. See his site for more details, but the general premise is to say yes to everything that is asked of you all day long. We believe there are probably some requests that are acceptable to deny, but we also love the idea of celebrating some love.
If you are a twitterererer, they will be using the hashtag #generosityday to share what people are doing. They provide some great examples on their site, but here are a few additional that we will be trying out in order to get the rebooting process started:
- Eat lunch with coworkers even if you are super busy.
- Have a conversation with a homeless person.
- Clean something in your home that is not necessarily your mess
- Plan a work happy hour and invite everyone in the office.
- Write an email to a friend you have not heard from in a while.
- Make your small talk bigger.
- Wear red.
- Share this love in some combination of the 40 or so variations of social networking that are available.
Let’s make “Happy Valentine’s Day!” a little happier.
Happy Valentine’s day!
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!!
